[Kotetsu's been laying low, for the sake of... well, not getting into trouble. He's been doing pretty good, okay? Like, exceptionally! Today is just 'Filter Through the Item Shop' day, where he's getting a few simple things; a camera, a new coat, and the usual sort of thing. Of course, he hardly expected to run into a box of familiar old records--his own, right outta' the apartment back home. He's excited and grinning when he slides back the opened top a little.]

Maaa, no way! This has my Mr. Legend albums and everything!

[Hell yes, today is the best day ever!

... Eh? What's this?

He removes the top completely and narrows his eyes at the small notebook on top. It'd have his recorded regression of power inside, he knew, and there was nothing like a brief reminder of your disappointments to kill the mood, right? But he just grumbles in annoyance under his breath and tucks the small journal away in his back pocket before hoisting up the box of goods.

Perfect. Now there was only one issue.]

Oi, oi, anybody got a video record player they'd let me borrow for a while? Nothing fancy, just whatever'll play my old records! Or a record player for my music, anyway; do the malnosso give those kindsa' things out?

I searched the store, but I didn't see any...

[Hnn.]

Actually, I was wondering if you guys had any kindsa' heroes back home; not like, officers and army people—those guys are heroes, too, but I mean the old fashion Heroes! With capes and masks and all kinds of cool stuff like that! The ones who have neat powers and fight the crooks!

Things like that are the coolest, don't ya' think?


[Afterward he lankily walks off to work, whistling into the kitchen. And practically drools while he sweeps, because my god, why did he work in a place where food was made specifically not for him. :C

He needs something to listen to to get his mind off things.

Well, yeah! Only the best heroes wear capes and masks, y'know!

I think we're the closest thing to superheroes in my world. Although we don't wear capes or anything. Or even masks. [Wow, maybe they aren't superheroes!]

There's Spider-Man in New York City, but I'm not sure if he's a superhero or supervillain. [The newspapers seem to think he's a bad guy, though.] And then there was Captain America, but I'm not sure if he counts. He was fighting in a war.

There's a Tony Stark in our world too, but he doesn't do that Iron Man stuff.

I could do without that Iron Man jerk. Crapbeard gets on my nerves too much.

But the other two sound pretty cool! What're they like?

[Wait, but he wasn't a super hero. And... well... his role before wasn't a hero.]

But back home Freyr had taken the role of a phantom thief. So maybe Freyr isn't a hero after all.... But noble phantom thieves can be heroes. Freyr has read many books about such individuals. The anti hero!

[But Freyr's role was that of the antagonist....]

R-right... That doesn't sound much like a hero, to me... Thieves are kinda' the people I caught on a daily basis. [Admitting to stealing WTF MAN.]

[Actually, it's the music player bit that pinged him, but unfortunately Ginji doesn't have anything like that here. If they were back in Sheridan, then Ishtar could have helped.]

You mean like Abyssman?

Abyssman? ... That sounds more like a villain's name...

[Excuse the hustle and bustle, Kotetsu, but work is work! Miyabi's just bringing in some dishes to be washed and spies the hungry man. Sigh. She better get to him before "someone else" (Sanji) does. She can at least be a little forgiving.]

Whatever you're thinking, I don't think it's a very good idea, Mr. Kotetsu.

If we can qualify as our own heroes, then yes. Though capes are a terrible idea. And a terrible fashion statement. Also, masks are overrated.

[Good thing you didn't mention tights. We'd be here all day.]

They are not! Besides, you wear a mask. It's just. A really hard metal one.

It does, too! Just because you're used to all that new-age stuff doesn't mean they don't exist anymore...

There's gotta be one out there somewhere....

[There are record players around in Luceti. There's one in House 44, in fact, and if it was Ginia's, she'd be willing to loan it out under some very strict rules. But it's not her's, it's Giles', and thus it's not going anywhere.]

You can get one through missions. That's how... someone I knew got his.

And there are no heroes in my world outside of fiction.

Missions... [Not too big a fan of those. But he'll think on it.

Huh... I guess then you're a hero in your own right! I was mainly talking about people who consider it their job or occupation, but that works, too.

After all, nothin' more important than protecting your world, naa?

That seems... an unusual occupation to take up. Not one that I've ever seen, at the least, if you don't mind my saying so.

It's not that unusual, when you think about it; since normal people can't always protect themselves from the bad guys, it's our job to keep it safe for 'em! Kinda' like police officers, but with a little more power or skill!

Capes and masks? Why would they wear a mask? That seems like a bad way to get a name for yourself. I mean I'd have a hard time thanking... Mask guy... For defending Falenas from anything.

Well, that was kinda' the point! Heroes were mysterious kindsa' people, so it makes 'em more appealing! Besides, they didn't want people to know who they were 'cause they also had normal lives on the side.

Cape-and-spandex type heroes in my world only exist in comic books. We don't really have any people who are enhanced or anything like that. Just certain folks who are highly trained in certain areas. Still technically average Joe types, though.
